A cast iron boot scraper in the form of a stylised anthemion. I recently spotted the identical scraper to this at the side entrance to 20 Portman square, (21 Gloucester place) This is a fascinating property which was begun by James Wyatt in 1773, and completed by Robert Adam in 1775. The facade is dotted with Coade stone plaques and roundels, with decorative cast iron balcony panels. These are likely to be from the Carron foundry, and are probably the source of this scraper too.
It is quite exciting to be be able to attribute this design to Adam, it does need a new base, but as a little piece of British architectural history it is fun.
